Drene Ivy, arranger, composer and vocalist of Beachwood, Ohio at www.dreneivy.com has recently published an article," Should Christians listen to secular Music", which will be the subject on my radio show, "Think About It" in the near future. Joe Lewis,Jazz saxophonist, arranger and composer of Joe Lewis Music School, and D.J. Handy, arranger and composer of 1 LUV Productions, are just a few of many musicians who play inspirational music for their churches and secular music for events that require it. It has been frowned on in the past by some churches and many musicians and vocalists (i.e.,Sam Cooke & Michael Jackson) have been excommunicated from their church because of this. There are many entertainers who started out in the church that chose to sing secular music only if they could not do both. The movies, "The Fighting Temptations", "Preaching To The Choir" and The Gospel" are a few recent movies that focused on this controversy of church music vs secular music. I have heard a few people voice their opinion of Yolanda Adams singing a secular song [in tribute to Chaka Khan] on the BET music awards last year. We need to come to a meeting of the minds on this matter; wouldn't you say? I want to know your opinion and why. Please indicate if I have permission to mention your name on the air.
